Reason#35 Lupang Hinirang, Not Bayang Magiliw

Nice to know:

There's really no excuse for any Pinoy to not know the lyrics of the Philippine national anthem.  And please remember that the official title is Lupang Hinirang, not Bayang Magiliw.

On June 12, 1898, the national anthem was first played publicly in proclamation of independence from Spain.

The national anthem was translated into Tagalog during President Magsaysay's term.

Lupang Hinirang

Bayang magiliw,
Perlas ng Silangan,
Alab ng puso,
Sa dibdib mo'y buhay.

Lupang Hinirang,
Duyan ka ng magiting,
Sa manlulupig,
Di ka pasisiil.

Sa dagat at bundok,
Sa simoy at sa langit mong bughaw,
May dilag ang tula
At awit sa paglayang minamahal.

Ang kislap ng watawat mo'y
Tagumpay na nagniningning;
Ang bituin at araw niya,
Kailan pa may di magdidilim.

Lupa ng araw, ng luwalhati't pagsinta,
Buhay ay langit sa piling mo;
Aming ligaya, na pag ma'y mang-aapi,
Ang mamatay nang dahil sa iyo.

What others say:

If we sign our national anthem in different tunes it only shows how "un-united" we are as a country. 1 song, 1 theme, 1 tune, 1 people. - Christine Dapa
